In the store front of the SCHUNCK* Glaspaleis, artist Nils Nova will be creating a real palace of mirrors that will turn the existing facade into an illusion of infinity. In particular, it will be the optical levelling of space in his work that grabs the at- tention. The title has a double meaning: in addition to the recurrence of images, visitors notice their reflection in the glass and see themselves as part of this illusion.
The visual work of this internationally acclaimed artist has recently been characterised by an con- temporary analysis of the possibilities offered by the trompe-L’oeil, the trick-of-the-eye technique that seemingly distorts reality. From 1997 to 2001, Nova studied fine arts at the Lucerne University of Art and Design. His work has been displayed at the Venice Art Biennale (2009) and the 14th Internati- onal Architecture Biennale in Venice (2014), where he worked with Martino Stierli (MoMA’s Chief Curator of Architecture and Design) and Hilar Stadler (Las Vegas Studio). Recently, his installation ‘Twist’ appeared in the Nieuwe Instituut Rotter- dam, under the curatorship of Erich Weiss, who is likewise behind the Reflections and Hunger For Life presentations in SCHUNCK*.
